PARKS & RECREATION

Comprehensive Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan, Swatara Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for collecting/analyzing background information and existing conditions, soliciting public input, assessing needs/preparing and tabulating survey questionnaire, conducting public meetings, directing plan, mapping and report preparation for the completion of a Comprehensive, Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan to guide and facilitate park and recreation programs and facility improvements in Swatara Township.

Anderson Field Rehabilitation - Messiah College, Monaghan Township, York County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for existing field turf and drainage analysis, assessment of synthetic turf product choices, preparation of construction drawings and specifications for replacement of synthetic turf system and warning track.  Messiah’s Anderson Field is a multi-use field for hockey, men’s/women’s lacrosse games that is also used by other sports as a practice field.

Adams County Greenway Plan, Adams County, PA - Landscape architect responsible for natural features inventory and mapping as part of a consultant team to develop a County Greenway Plan to facilitate greenways, trails, and land conservation in Adams County.

Crown Point Park for Susquehanna Township Board of Commissioners, Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project manager performed conceptual planning, construction contract documents, bid and construction-related services for the development of this 4-acre site that is to include parking, picnic pavilion, playgrounds, games court, and walking path.

Fairville Park, West Hanover Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for preparation of master plan and report for improvements and expansion of a 24-acre park site.  Work included background research, site analysis, needs assessment, public participation, activities/facilities analysis, preliminary design alternatives, preliminary construction, maintenance and operation cost estimates, phased capital improvement plan and financing recommendations, and a Final Master Plan and report.  Proposed facilities will include a new log cabin, playground renovations, softball and baseball field renovations, walking paths, parking expansion, and related site infrastructure and recreational amenities.

East Berlin Borough Community Park, Borough of East Berlin, Adams County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for preparation of a Master Plan and Report for the development of a 17.38-acre park site.  Work included background research, site analysis, needs assessment, public participation, activities/facilities analysis, preliminary design alternatives, preliminary construction, maintenance and operation cost estimates, phased capital improvement plan and financing recommendations, and a Final Master Plan and Report.  Proposed facilities will include basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, skate park area, softball, baseball and soccer fields, picnic pavilions, restrooms, a walking path, fishing area, stream restoration, parking, and related site infrastructure and recreational amenities.

Carroll Valley Borough Parks and A Public Trail System, Carroll Valley, Adams County, PA - This project involved conceptual sketch plans, including topography, property lines, existing and proposed development, Estimates of Probable Cost and Non-Cash Services Plan, and DCNR Grant application assistance for development of several parks and a public trail system throughout this very large Borough along the Route 116 corridor.  Responsibilities included project management, site analysis, data collection, directing mapping, planning, design, utility coordination, and cost estimation.

Park and Recreation Plan Update - 2005, Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County, PA - A concise updated report was prepared to assess current conditions of the Park and Recreation Facilities Programs and Operations.  The Plan Update made recommendations for future improvements and recreational strategies to meet the needs of a growing community.

Community Building and Park, Upper Leacock Township, Lancaster, PA - Project manager responsible for project management, feasibility analysis of building and park site for park and recreation use, and conceptual design of Park Master Plan.  Work included Site and Building Analysis, Needs Assessment by working with Township Study Committee, conducting public and focus group meetings, preparing a Survey Questionnaire; Activities and Facilities/Design Standards Analysis, Preliminary Design Alternatives, Estimating Construction, Operational, and Maintenance Costs, Capital Budget Plan, and a Final Master Plan and Report documentation.  Building and Park improvements will include renovations to gymnasium, auditorium, and courtyard; accessible building entrance(s), multi-purpose open area/future athletic fields, gravel walking path, picnic pavilion, composting toilet restrooms, playground, basketball court, parking, drainage, utilities, and landscaping.

 Soccer Field Park Site Improvements and Veteran’s Park Athletic Field Lighting and Electrical Distribution, Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project manager/designer responsible for preparing construction documents and prepared bid-related and construction-related services for the development of this 16-acre site to include a baseball field, softball field, nature trail, tennis courts, basketball court, picnic pavilion, restrooms, and new maintenance garage.

Clipper Magazine Stadium, City of Lancaster, Lancaster County, PA - Preparation of the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control plans and an NPDES Notice of Intent to use General Permit, for the construction of the proposed multi-purpose 5,700-seat stadium and related infrastructure on 10.7 acres.

Donald B. Stabler Memorial Field Recreation Area, Christian McNaughton Park, and Edgemont (Locust Lane) Park, Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project manager/designer responsible for site concept design, construction cost estimates, construction contract drawings and documents, bio-related and construction-related services for three parks including softball and baseball fields, playgrounds, parking, landscaping, basketball courts, public restrooms, pedestrian paths.  Plans and estimates prepared for submittal with funding application to DCNR.

Marion F. Alexander Park at Graystone Farms Lot 52, Hummelstown Borough, Dauphin County, PA - Project manager/designer responsible for preliminary concept plans and preliminary cost estimates for Part 1 - PA DCNR funding application.  Once PA DCNR granted funding, HRG prepared construction drawings, bidding documents, and technical specifications for Part 2 - PA DCNR funding requirements.  HRG also performed construction-related services.  The three-acre park includes an entry plaza, sign/seat wall, parking area, paths, benches, basketball court, picnic pavilion, playground, and landscaping.

Hummelstown Pedestrian Path at United Water Woods, Hummelstown Borough, Dauphin County, PA - Project manager/designer of a one-mile long nature trail connecting adjacent residential communities to Swatara Creek.  Responsibilities included site investigation, conceptual planning, funding application assistance, and cost estimating.

Wass Park, Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, PA - Responsible for the preparation of a construction cost estimate and construction contract documents including drawings, bidding documents, and specifications for the development of a playground, path, reconstructed parking areas, and related site improvements for an existing ten-acre Township park.  These documents were prepared as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for Part II funding requirements for a Keystone Grant awarded to the Township.  Also provided Construction Administrative services.

Robert E. Yetter Memorial Field at Wass Park, Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, PA - Responsible for the preparation of a preliminary construction cost estimate and preliminary site plan for the development of baseball field renovations and related site improvements.

Community Park, Lower Allen Township, Cumberland County, PA - Responsible for the preparation of a construction cost estimate and construction contract documents including drawings, bidding documents and specifications for the development of a new parking lot, driveway, paths, reconstructed soccer fields and related infrastructure in a eight-acre area of an existing 109-acre park in the Township. These documents were prepared as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for Part II funding requirements for a DCNR Grant awarded to the Township.

Recreational Use Area at Waverly Woods and Margaret’s Grove - Susquehanna Township, PA - Project manager performed concept planning for ± 15-acre adjacent sites that are to include parking, picnic pavilions, boat launch/dock at existing three-acre pond, playgrounds, paths, and boardwalks.

Crest Park, Swatara Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project manager responsible for conceptual planning, cost estimating, DCNR Grant application assistance, layout, grading, erosion and sediment control design, construction contract drawings and specifications, bid-related and construction-related services for an existing two-acre park.  Park development includes landscaping, parking, a picnic pavilion, a playground, signage, benches, utility services, pedestrian path, and ADA accessibility improvements.

Skyline Commons Park, West Hanover Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for preparing a Master Plan to guide future park improvements.  Also prepared construction contract documents for Phase I Path Improvements.  Ultimately, improvements are to include shuffleboard courts, a pedestrian path, playground, pavilion, gazebo, boardwalk through wetlands, basketball court, parking, drainage, and landscaping to provide screening and define amphitheater space.  Master Plan Design completed in February 2004, Path Improvements installed in 2006, and recreation courts, pavilion, education shelter, and boardwalk installed in 2007.

Lenker Park, West Hanover Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for conceptual planning, cost estimating, successful DCNR Grant application assistance, layout, grading, erosion and sediment control design, construction contract drawings and specifications, bid-related and construction-related services for an existing 3.7-acre park.  Park rehabilitation will include tennis court pavement and fencing reconstruction, court light timer/meter control replacement, playground areas, signage, benches, pedestrian path, and drainage improvements.

 

COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL/INSTITUTIONAL

Church & Dwight / Arm & Hammer Processing/Distribution Facility, Jackson Township, PA - Project Manager  responsibille for coordinating all site design aspects related to Land Development Plan preparation and approvals for a 1.9 million square foot industrial facility on a 230 acre site.

Stream Restoration at Bull Frog Valley Road for Hershey Trust Corporation, Derry Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project designer responsible for planting design  and construction specifications for restored stream channel using natural re-vegetation techniques to include wildflower/specialty seeding, fiber rolls, erosion control matting, and live stakes.

Wnydridge Farm, York Township, York County, PA - Project designer for land development plans and PENNDOT Highway Occupancy Permit application associated with a large Cidery/Brewery/Restaurant/Events venue.

Harrisburg International Airport for Dauphin County General Authority and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Bureau of Aviation - Smart Park, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, PA - Landscape designer responsible for planting design and landscape construction specifications.

Capital Region Economic Development Corporation, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, PA - Project designer for land development plans and PENNDOT Highway Occupancy Permit application associated with a 156,000 square-foot, three-story office building.

Verizon (Formerly 360 Communications), Various Sites throughout PA - Project manager for cellular phone tower sites. Responsible for project correspondence, representation at public meetings, coordination of land survey services, design of layout, grading, drainage, erosion and sedimentation control plans, details, and supporting documentation.

Hawthorne Suites Hotel, Paxton Township, Dauphin County, PA - A 104-room hotel on a four-acre site.  Project designer responsible for site layout, grading, stormwater design, utility design, and coordination and submission of all regulatory agency permits and approvals for the project.

Duck Pond Storm Channel Improvements for Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Centre County, PA - Project designer responsible for planting design for a severely eroded stream channel using natural BMPs.  Assisted in preparing construction documents to include vegetation, fiber rolls, erosion control matting, fascines, and live stakes.

Beaver Stadium West Parking Expansion for Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Centre County, PA - Parking area west of Beaver Stadium.  Project designer responsible for landscape design and specification in and around parking area.

 Ingram Micro Warehouse/Distributor Facility, Inc., Union Township, Lebanon County, PA - A 1,100,000 square-foot warehouse/distribution facility on a 104-acre, industrially zoned parcel of land.  Site designer responsible for grading, stream restoration, and landscape design.

 850 Megawatt Natural Gas-fired Power Plant for Reliant Energy, Straban Township, Adams County, PA - A 850 megawatt natural gas-fired power plant on a 300-acre site.  Landscape designer responsible for landscape design and construction contract documents and landscape construction related services.

 New Store Site Development for Rite Aid Corporation - Project manager responsible for coordinating topographic and property surveying, coordination of geotechnical investigations and lead and asbestos surveys, environmental studies, traffic and transportation engineering, and duties included site design, stormwater management, grading and utility design and the coordination of municipal and regulatory agency approvals for serving new Rite Aid store sites.

 Terravant Land Company, Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, PA - Responsibilities included landscape and path design for a 1,007-unit Traditional Neighborhood Development, including a town center, civic spaces, recreational facilities, and commercial space.

 Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg, Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County, PA - Assisted architect with site related items for the expansion of the nursing home and the design of an attached assisted living center.  Services provided included site design, obtaining various state agency approvals, construction contract documentation, and on-going construction phase services.  Project responsibilities also included design of the related site infrastructure parking, stormwater management facilities, utilities, an emergency access lane, and landscaping.

 Harrison and Grass - Fallow Field Commerce Center, Hampden Township, Cumberland County, PA - A 68-acre site design for a 250,000 square-foot retail center.  Assistant project manager and designer responsible for coordinating conceptual planning, boundary survey, wetland investigation, subdivision planning, site design, cost estimating, stormwater management design, utility coordination, sewer pump station design, traffic study, signal design and PENNDOT Highway Occupancy Permit for public roadway re-reconstruction.

 

TRANSPORTATION

PA Department of General Services I-81 Safety Rest Areas, East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project Designer for Land Development and Construction Plans for two Interstate rest areas, including car and truck parking, bus stops, picnic areas, pet area, truck inspection lane, and signage.

Pedestrian Path Plan, West Hanover Township, Dauphin County, PA - Project manager responsible for completing a study to assist the Township in developing a Township path system for pedestrians, bicycles, and equestrians.  The study is being partially funded through PENNDOT’s Transportation Enhancement Program.  Project will include GIS basemapping, data collection, land/route analysis, needs assessment/citizen questionnaire, focus group meetings, preliminary plan alternatives, use recommendations, construction/operation/maintenance costs, capital budget recommendations, Township document revision recommendations, and master plan and report.  The study area includes approximately nine square miles.  Ultimately, the study will help guide development of the path system to interconnect West Hanover Township’s neighborhoods, schools, parks, and commercial areas while providing a recreational resource.

Streetscape Beautification, Littlestown Borough, Adams County, PA - Project designer responsible for conceptual planning, cost estimating, streetscape, landscape, plaza, and courtyard design and construction detailing.  Responsibilities also included coordination of utility companies regarding overhead facilities removal.  Town revitalization and beautification improvements included street trees, street and site lighting, decorative pavers, benches, walls, interpretive panels, fountain, landscaping, town clock and other site amenities.  Providing on-going construction-related services to the Borough.  Construction scheduled to be completed by 2008.

State Route 15 Interchange Beautification for Gettysburg Adams County Area Chamber of Commerce, Adams County, PA - Project was conceived to make landscape improvements to eight highway interchange areas in Adams County using Highway Beautification/Quality of Life funding administered by PENNDOT.  Responsibilities included directing a volunteer committee including chamber staff, community leaders, NPS and PENNDOT representatives, and business-school partnership representatives to plan the project.  Responsibilities also included preparing conceptual Landscape Plans and Construction Cost Estimates needed to secure funding for landscape construction at the Steinwehr Avenue and Taneytown Road interchanges

 

RESIDENTIAL

 Carlisle Street Apartments, Gettysburg Borough, Adams County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for preparing sketch plans, zoning hearing applications, and future land development plans for municipal approval and future Highway Occupancy Permit application for utility and sidewalk work with state road right-of-way for 64 units in two apartment buildings with parking and related infrastructure.

 Harmony Ridge Apartments, Wellness Center and Café Expansion, Oxford Township, Adams County, PA - Project landscape architect responsible for design and preparation of land development plans for municipal approvals and site construction drawings for development of a three-story apartment building expansion and related parking and site infrastructure at Cross Keys Village - The Brethren Home Community.

 Keller Farms/Plank’s Field Residential Subdivision, Straban Township, Adams County, PA - Erosion control designer for the subdivision of 118 acres, including design of roadways; sanitary sewer collection and treatment; and stormwater management, as well as compliance with local, state, and federal approval and permitting requirement.

 Spring Valley Manor - Phase 2 for York Habitat for Humanity, Dover Borough, York County, PA - A 16-lot single-family detached residential development.  Project manager/designer responsible for conceptual planning, cost estimating, layout, grading, drainage, sewer, and erosion and sediment control and street design and construction detailing as part of Subdivision and Land Development Plan. 

 Various Site Improvements for The Brethren Home Community, Oxford Township, Adams County, PA - Project designer responsible for conceptual planning, cost estimating, layout, grading, erosion and sediment control design, construction contract drawings and specifications, and bid-related services for an existing retirement residential community.  Site improvements included parking, drainage, grading, erosion control, utility services, driveways, and walks.

 Meadows of Hanover, South Hanover Township, Dauphin County, PA - Design and construction are on-going of a 220-acre mixed-use residential community including 148 single-family homes, 676 multi-family units (townhomes and apartments), one 95,000 square-foot neighborhood shopping center, recreational facilities and other related work.  Assistant project manager and designer responsible for coordination of all on and off-site infrastructure improvements, preparation of subdivision and land development plans, and securing municipal and regulatory agency approvals for Phases 4 and 6 of the project.

 Roth Village Townhomes for Elam G. Stoltzfus, Inc., Hampden Township, Cumberland County, PA - A 61-unit single-family townhouse community on a steep eight-acre site.  Project manager responsible for the design of layout, grading, landscape, construction details, and construction observation.

 

 RELIGIOUS FACILITIES

 Hunterstown Church of God, Adams County, PA - Project manager/designer for a land development plan of a 16,830 square-foot (phase 1) church.  Services included the design of parking, landscaping, drainage, erosion control, utilities, wetland delineation/mitigation, and related work for drawings and supporting documentation.

 Saint George Church/Mifflinburg Mission, Union County, PA - Project manager for a land development plan for an 8,000 square-foot church. Services included the design of parking, landscaping, drainage, erosion control, utilities, wetland delineation/mitigation, and related work for drawings and supporting documentation.

 Friendship Community Church, Dover Township, York County, PA - Project manager for the development of a zoning hearing application, sketch plan, preliminary investigation, and subdivision plan to acquire a nine-acre lot from the 113-acre parent tract for future development of a 21,000 square-foot church.

 Foursquare Gospel Church, Gettysburg, Adams County, PA - Project manager responsible for preparation of a land development plan for building addition and related site improvements.

 Thornwald Home for United Church of Christ Homes, Cumberland County, PA - Approximately 55,000 square feet of building additions including 42 service-rich apartments.  Landscape designer responsible for landscape design as part of land development plan.

 Zion Lutheran Church, Manchester Township, York County, PA - Project manager/designer responsible for preparation of design and construction drawings for Columbarium and Memorial Garden.

 

MUNICIPAL

Fairview Township, York County, PA - Acted as alternate township engineer in 2000 to review subdivision and land development plans and supporting documentation prepared by other engineering firms.

 Various Municipalities throughout Southcentral PA - Assisted township engineers in reviewing subdivision and land development plans and supporting documentation.
